Demi Lovato will make her return to the stage at the Do Something Awards, which will air Thursday, August 18, on VH1. It will mark the first time Lovato has publicly performed her hit single “Skyscraper.” The singer is up for two awards: Do Something Charity Song and Do Something TV Star.

If you are expecting anything less than ‘wow,’ you’ve got the wrong awards show,” Nancy Lublin, CEO and Chief Old Person of DoSomething.org, said in a statement. “We are so psyched to have Demi’s first public performance, a hot breakout band like Foster the People, and expect OneRepublic with B.o.B to be very loud!”

The big nominees include Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Prince William and Duchess Catherine, David Beckham, Scarlett Johansson, Russell Brand and Will Ferrell. Celebrities are nominated in a number of categories from Do Something Movie Star to Do Something Couple for helping to inspire young people in the world of philanthropy.

The show sets out to honor the “nation’s best young world-changers who represent the pivotal ‘do-ers’ in their field, cause or issue.” One lucky “do-er” will have the chance to win $100,000 for their cause. The five nominees this year are Taryn Guerrero Davis for the American Widow Project, David Schwartz for the Real Food Challenge, Sarah Cronk for the Sparkle Effect, Mark Kabban for YALLA (Youth And Leaders Living Actively) and Adam Lowy for Move for Hunger.

“This year’s show will feature some of the hottest musicians performing the summer’s biggest hits in celebration of these amazing young people’s accomplishments,” VH1 President, Tom Calderone, added.

Seventeen contributing editor Demi Lovato talks about why she’s steering clear of drugs and alcohol — and why you should too!

“Sober Is Sexy” is my new motto, and it couldn’t be more true! All you need to have fun in life is a great attitude and good friends. I’ve made a commitment to myself to live a happy healthy life the best way I know how and I want to spread the message that you don’t need to do drink or do drugs to have fun.

I think a lot of people our age start off experimenting with drugs and alcohol as innocent fun, out of curiosity, or because their friends are doing it. Often times this “innocent fun” can lead to very serious issues like drunk driving, bad choices and in some cases – addiction. Addiction is a very serious disease, and it doesn’t just go away. I’ve suffered from an eating disorder which is an addiction, and I will have to work on my recovery every day for the rest of my life. It’s an ongoing battle but one that is well worth it, and I’ve never felt happier.

Demi whose road to recovery has made her an inspiration and role model herself — reveals who she looks up to in Hollywood and why! Demi has been idolized for speaking out about her issues since checking into a treatment center last year. So who has inspired the starlet to become such a positive influence on her fans?

There are people like Rosario Dawson and Eva Longoria and, not only are they just some of the sweetest woman you’ll ever meet, but they’re actually doing things, charitable things,” the 18-year-old singer said while chatting with fans on the Mack at Nite radio show, “But also Angelina Jolie, too, so I look up to people like that that use their voice and their talents for the greater.”

It’s clear that Demi has been taking cues from her Hollywood role models. She has worked on a number of campaigns to bring awareness to environmental, bullying and education issues. Most recently, Demi has focused on calling attention to issues similar to her won. She plans to speak out about her issues as part of a campaign called, “Love is Louder Than The Pressure to be Perfect,” focused on teen girls.

We love that there are still some healthy role models in Hollywood for young celebs, like Demi, to look up to!

After spending November 2010 – January 2011 in a treatment facility, Demi Lovato is standing tall with hit comeback single ‘Skyscraper.’ The towering song has garnered praise from stars like Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson and Pete Wentz and has already been covered by Jordin Sparks. As she puts the finishing touches on her third studio album Demi reveals to AOL Music that she does not consider herself to be recovered and even considered quitting showbiz altogether. The 18-year-old admits she looks to actor Robert Downey Jr. as an “inspiration,” and hopes to motivate others to get healthy. And, of course, Demi addresses those Ryan Phillippe dating rumors.

You’ve been getting rave reviews from other artists for your new single ‘Skyscraper.’ What’s your reaction to all of the praise and support?

There has been so much positive feedback, it’s been so incredible. I hear that people like Katy Perry and Kelly Clarkson respect my music and are even tweeting about it on their own time. I mean, it’s just been so amazing and I’ve been so thankful and grateful. It’s just so exciting for me, because these are people I look up to myself and then hearing that they’re tweeting about me; it’s like a dream come true.

Do you think any collaborations might come out of all this?

I would love to collaborate with these people. I haven’t had the opportunity yet, but maybe in the future. That’s something that will definitely be on my wish list.

Who have you been working with on your new album?

I’ve been working with [producer and songwriter] Toby Gad and with a couple named Dan [Pringle] and Leah [Haywood], they’re with Dreamlab Productions. They’re amazing — we’ve done some really great stuff together. I worked with Ryan Tedder the other day, from OneRepublic. And Tim [James] and Antonina [Armato] from Rock Mafia. So I’ve worked with some really incredible people and I’m really excited for the other people that I’m going to get to work with soon.

Demi Lovato released her brand new song, “Skyscraper,” which has jump-started her comeback. The soaring ballad about standing strong in the face of emotional turmoil quickly shot to the top of the iTunes charts, making it the biggest hit of Demi Lovato‘s young career. Fans instantly connected to the powerful track and homemade covers of the song began flooding YouTube. We spoke to Demi late on Tuesday night about the creative evolution of “Skyscraper,” shooting the tear-strewn video with director Mark Pellington, and her dismay with the ubiquity of alcohol references currently in the Billboard Top Ten.

VH1: What can you tell us about the time when the song sort of first made its way to you, and what was it that originally drew you to the song “Skyscraper”?

Demi Lovato: I recorded it a year ago, and when I first heard it I was blown away. I was emotionally attached to the song and I really related to it, like a lot of other people. Like a lot of my fans. I think that’s kind of the beauty of the song, that it’s really relatable, but for me when I first recorded it, it was kind of a cry for help. It was before I went to treatment, before everything had kind of hit the fan. I went to treatment and I came out, then I tried to rerecord “Skyscraper” because my voice had changed and it just wasn’t the same. There was something in that first try, that first run through of the song that was kind of magical. It was so much emotion in it, and to this day, it’s still really special to me. I’ve never been so vulnerable or emotional while recording a song, to the point where I was almost doubled over in tears in the studio. I was crying when I recorded it, I was bawling my eyes out. I don’t know, it just felt really great to open up like that.

Demi Lovato has teased that her new album sounds “more pop” than previous offerings. During a live chat on Cambio, the singer-actress announced that her third studio record will be released on September 20, 2011. Lovato said:

It’s definitely more pop, it’s not the pop-rock feel anymore. I’m showcasing my vocals a lot more like I did on [my new single] ‘Skyscraper’ and feeling really comfortable with what we have so far.” Lovato’s younger sister Madison, who appears on Desperate Housewives, added: “I think it’s the coolest album I’ve ever heard!”

Former Sonny with a Chance star Lovato released new track ‘Skyscraper’ this month. The accompanying music video features the teenager dressed in white and standing alone in the desert. She told fans on the live chat that she has yet to decide on a follow-up single, saying:

I’ve actually recorded about 20-something songs. We have to cut it down to fit the album and then we’ll choose the next single. I don’t know which one it will be.”

Lovato also hinted that a future tour could be in the works when one fan asked about her plans to hit the road.

If I was to tour I would announce it soon,” she teased. “Maybe possibly I’m in the works of putting together a tour and maybe it would be all around the world. I don’t know… I’m just saying!”

Lovato released her debut album Don’t Forget in 2008. It was followed by sophomore record Here We Go Again the following year.
